DAWN DODGE
Woodspirit Studio
One of my many hobbies is collecting driftwood.  One day I woke up to an enormous pile of twisted and interesting gray wood in my house, and decided I had better do something with it before the squirrels and black bears move in with me.  At first I began painting the faces of Santas on the pieces, then other 'original' faces began to emerge.  I wanted to do more though to express what I envisioned in the wood.  In the past, my father had given me a wood-carving set, but I ended up hamburger from the elbows on down, so carving was out of the question.  I explained my dilemma to my sister Sharen, and being the queen of, "That's so cool, I've gotta try this!", had discovered air-dry and oven-baked clays and suggested I try them out on the wood. My sculpted Woodspirits on Driftwood was born!!  If not for my other sister Karen constantly insisting, "OOOOH...I want that one ...and that one too!!" and the praise from my brother Johnny, other family and friends, and most treasured of all, my Mom Cathy, I would have just done this as a hobby.  Thanks to them, I gained the confidence to begin creating and sharing my work with the rest of the world.  My Woodspirits have traveled all over the continental United States as well as places in Canada and overseas.  It is exciting to meet others all over the world who enjoy my vision of these little faeries and welcome them into their homes.  I hope that you enjoy them too.  I Thank You for visiting these pages and hope you return often to view my latest creations.    Sincerely, Dawn Dodge.
